Deshbhakta Babasaheb Bhausaheb Khanjire Shikshan Sanstha was established in 1983 to fulfil the earnest dream of Deshbhakta Babasaheb Khanjire to provide facility of higher education to weaker and working class of the society. Late Babasaheb Khanjire was great freedom fighter, well-known Gandhian political leader and social reformer. He was M.L.A. from Ichalkaranji. He had played pivotal role in the development of Ichalkaranji city which is known as “Manchester of Maharashtra” today.

About Ichalkaranji City:-

Ichalkaranji was one of the princely states in Southern Maharashtra, situated on the banks of river Panchaganga. Shrimant Narayanrao Babasaheb Ghorpade was the far-sighted ruler of this state and from his era in real sense industrial development of this state has begun. Today Ichalkaranji city is known as the “Manchester of Maharashtra”. Various industries have flourished here related with cotton and textile production. Due to ample job opportunities available in the industry, people from not only Maharashtra, but also from different parts of the nation are attracted towards Ichalkaranji. The worker community centred around Ichalkaranji, who were deprived of and dropped out from the main stream of Higher Education.

About the Founder :-

After the sad demise of Deshbhakta Babasaheb Khanjire to pay tribute to this great foresighted leader, his followers decided to establish education institute as a monument of Deshbhakta Babasaheb Bhausaheb Khanjire’s thoughts. Deshbhakta Babasaheb Bhausaheb Khanjire Shikshan Sanstha, Ichalkaranji was established in May 1983, under the leadership of Mrs.Sarojinitai Babasaheb Khanjire the then founder chairman.

Late Mrs.Sarojini Khanjire was also a great freedom fighter, social reformer and devoted Gandhian followers like Deshbhakta Babasaheb Khanjire. She had given valuable contribution to the freedom struggle of India by providing initiation in building women organizations, to intensity the activities of freedom movement of 1942, along with Babasaheb Khanjire. She had deep concern about the untouchables, deprived, workers & weaker sections of the society and special concern about women problems. She had written number of articles which focussed on women’s problems. She also had tried to solve their problems, when she was popular M.L.A. of Shirol taluka constituency. She worked so remarkably that the development of the Shirol Taluka had been linked with her name. She was lovingly called as ‘Wahini or Akka’. She remarkably contributed to co-operative movement also by taking initiation in the establishment of efficient & successful organization of following units:-
